This recognition includes a $230,000 investment for the restoration of the Museo de la Ciudad 450, also known as Palacio de Escárzaga, helping to preserve its cultural and architectural legacy.

A Commitment to Heritage

During the official groundbreaking ceremony, which was attended by authorities from the U.S. Consulate in Monterrey in the person of Melissa Bishop, Toño Ochoa, municipal president of Durango, emphasized: “The conservation of the 450th City Museum is a worthy project that demonstrates the commitment of the municipal government to protect our heritage. This international support reaffirms Durango as a city that values and preserves its history”.

Cultural and Tourist Impact

Valeria Gutiérrez, Director of Economic Development and Tourism, underscored the importance of this binational collaboration, stating: “With this project, we are dignifying one of our most important cultural spaces. We thank the U.S. government for its support, which will strengthen tourism and the local economy.

A Lasting Legacy

The conservation work will include cleaning of quarries, wood treatment, waterproofing, painting, and restoration of ironwork and beams. The project is expected to take one year to complete, with the goal of offering a renovated space for Durango residents and visitors, enhancing the city’s cultural heritage and strengthening cultural ties between Mexico and the United States.
