Located in the former Palacio de Zambrano, this museum pays tribute to one of the most famous revolutionary leaders in the world: Francisco Villa, born as Doroteo Arango in La Coyotada, San Juan del Río, Durango. In this space, you’ll uncover secrets about the General and delve into the history of the Mexican Revolution. You can also admire the murals adorning its corridors, created by Durango native Francisco Montoya and Texcoco-born Manuel Guillermo de Lourdes.
Museum of Sacred Art
The Episcopal Gallery of the Cathedral, also known as the Museum of Sacred Art, is located in an annex to Durango Cathedral. This gallery houses the most important sacred art collection in northern Mexico, offering the perfect setting for a journey through the centuries. You’ll find works of great historical and artistic value that reflect the faith and devotion of renowned artists. The collection includes oil paintings, goldsmith works, ornaments, furniture, reliquaries, sculptures, and choral books, all contributing to a unique legacy in Mexico. Don’t miss the baroque-style tubular organ built in 1724 by Francisco Peláez, featuring over 900 pipes.
